BIRTH OF AN ISLAND

In August 2006, the crew of the yacht Maiken, sailing out of the Vava'u island group, came upon what they called a remarkable stone sea. Literally, rocks were floating on the ocean’s surface.

It wasn’t long until they noticed something on the horizon.

Right before their eyes, a new island was forming from a volcanic eruption.
