THE TOUGH LITTLE TUGBOAT
Although the origin of these photos are under some dispute, the event really did happen. Sometime in the late sixties or seventies, a tugboat hauling a barge of coal somewhere around Alabama underestimated the swiftly moving waters of a river and found itself on a collision course with a bridge. What happened was nothing short of miraculous.
The barge has already passed under the bridge at this point and it is pulling the helpless tug downriver.
Suddenly, the boat reappears on the other side.
Amazingly, the ship survived with minor damage and, as you can see from this photo, was actually still running after the ordeal.
