THE HANDFISH

Perhaps using its hand-like fins to give a fishy finger to evolution, the handfish moves across the ocean bottom using its fins as hands and feet - crawling rather than swimming.

All of the 14 known species of handfish are found off the coast of Tasmania and many of them have only recently been recognized as newly-discovered species.
