LETHE by TeaL Best friends Terri Roberts and Margi Kleinjan sat on a rocky outcrop high above their periodically sleepy home town of Comity. Below them the lights of the town twinkled, street light after street light lined up in neat rows..... Above them the stars twinkled, three planets slowly lined up into a neat row........ "Hey Girlfriend", Terri said as she stood and helped pull Margi to her feet, "Lets get wild". Margi's full lips curled into a sinister smile, the two girls stood side by side watching a lone blurred light as it slowly moved down the main steet..... Agent Diana Fowley eased the rental car carefully down the narrow road as she glanced at the road map on the passenger seat which Dana Scully had graciously drawn for her. Diana had been assigned a case in a small secluded town known as Wonomi. Having never heard of it and given up trying to find it on road maps she'd swallowed her pride and asked Scully, who had shown a knowledge of the town's location, if she'd mind drawing her directions. Scully had been almost too willing to help surprising not only Diana, but also Mulder who had noticed the tension between the two. The map blurred slightly and Diana sighed and rubbed her tired eyes with one hand while keeping the other on the wheel. She felt as though she'd been driving all night, Scully has sworn to her that if she took the right (TeaL: Left? It's been a while since I watched the ep!) at the stop sign and drove through a town called "Comity" she'd knock a good ten miles if not more off the trip. Diana glanced back up at the road just in time to see two figures step onto the road, She hit the brakes and swerved barely missing the teenagers. Terri and Margi stood in the middle of the road calmly watching as the car slid towards the river bank. "*Hate* her!", Terri spat out the attitude laden words. "*Hate* her, wouldn't wanna *date* her!!", Margi finished their decades old rhyme with equal attitude. Just as the car seemed to be slowing down and the panicking Diana thought it was about to stop, it began to uncannily pick up speed and careen towards the edge of the road. The car hit the cliff with an unbelievable force and became briefly airborne before hitting the deep, dark waters of the Lethe River...where it quickly sank from site. "Oooohhhh nice form but bad landing!", Margi said with mock sympathy. "The river'll never know what hit it" Margi grinned at her friends comment and took her by the hand pulling her down the road towards the river. "c'mon girlfriend" Diana dragged herself out of the murkey water and collapsed on the rough stones of the gently sloping bank. Her head hurt and her right wrist felt strange. Her mind and body numbed by the ice cold water. Diana slowly raised her left, uninjured hand to her temple but quickly pulled it away when it came across something warm and sticky....... Blood. She felt a wave of dizzyness wash over her. Why was she injured? She remembered being in the cold water but what she was doing in it in the first place confused her already jumbled brain. As the coldness became less severe, the pain grew and Diana eventually gave into it, and passed out. Ten minutes later Terri and Margi arrived to view their handywork. "Ohmygod!!!", Terri whimpered, "She should *not* be wearing those pants!" "Points for colour co-ordination", Margi added. Terri nodded and looked up at the steep hill, "Better split before that Detective chick shows up". Margi grinned, "Ooohh yea the blonde virgin" The two girls collapsed into a fit of giggles. Detective White surveyed the scene. After spending almost an hour trying to get a coherent sentence out of the badly shaken woman found by the river, she'd given up and just wanted to go home to sleep.... or stay up all night drinking...... She wasn't sure which sounded more inviting right now. A paramedic tapped her shoulder breaking her out of her reverie, "We need to get this woman to a hospital Ma'am....uh Detective..." Det. White nodded wearily, there was nothing more they could do here until the car was dredged and keeping this woman out in the cold for so long was cruel, and most likely making her condition worse......so why didn't she feel at all guilty about that? The town clock struck twelve. The three planets no longer perfectly aligned. Two blonde girls sat curled up by the curb in a deserted street, surrounded by broken glass , sobbing uncontrollably. ONE WEEK LATER After finally managing to dredge the car from the river and finding indentification, Det. White was relieved to be able put a name to their Jane Doe. Agent Diana Fowley F.B.I. Having contacted the bureau, Det. White now sat in the reception of the state psychiatric hospital awaiting the agents assigned to retrieving Agent Fowley. "Angela?", A quiet, familiar male voice asked , causing Det. White to turn, "Agent Mulder?", Her voice mirroring the disbelief in Mulders voice. It had been so long since..... Since a time years ago which she had been trying to erase from her memory. The two stood staring at eachother for a moment, both unsure what to say next. Scully glanced uncomfortably from Mulder to 'Angela' and broke the spell, "We're here to collect Agent Fowley" Det. White blinked, "Oh of course....right this way", she said leading them down the long white hall. She left them at a lone door at the end of the hall labelled '1021' . Mulder peered in through the small window while waiting for 'Angela' to return with the doctor. A barely recognisable Diana sat on the hard floor, bound in a straitjacket , rocking back and forth. "Why, I do believe she's drooling", Scully spoke up. Mulder ignored her as he murmered, "Who would do such a thing?" Scully just shrugged, she didnt know and strangely enough didn't really care. From there , Diana was placed into a D.C Psychiatric hospital. Her memory of her life before the accident was lost forever, claimed by the dark , eerie waters of the river. While her body remained healthy, her mind lost control with each passing day and Mulder visited her less and less as he got on with his own life. It didn't matter as Diana had no memory of him whatsoever. Her mind was haunted only by the image of two blonde girls....... THE END And what a happy ending that was! hehe Ok I admit I rushed it, I put that together in about 2 hours! Don't delay E-mail Talitha_1121@yahoo.com today! My InBox is standing by :) AUTHORS NOTES (Ramblings):First of all the river's name "Lethe" is from Greek Myth. It was a river in the underworld and when souls drank from the water all memories of their former lives were forgotton....so we're going to pretend that Diana accidently swallowed some water while escaping the sinking car. The word "Lethe" means 'oblivion' I *love* Terri and Margi and I've been dying to use them in a fic. Here's some useless info as to why.... SYZYGY originally aired on my birthday, my starsign (Aquarius) is mentioned in the ep and I was born the same year as T&M... which is kinda cool lol I know the particular syzygy that first affected the girls only happens every 84(?) years , but syzygy's involving other planets also occur so we're just going to pretend other planatary alignments can affect the behaviour of the residents of Comity . phew ok moving on.....
